Artistic Statement
I want to dance because it brings joy to not only myself, but those around me. Dance has been used to communicate feelings and celebrate life for thousands of years, and I am honored to carry on that tradition. Whether it be in my dancing or choreography, I strive to incorporate raw, relatable emotions into my work. During these vulnerable moments, I can empathize with those around me and spark connections that uplift another human’s soul, something so special that I so greatly value.
I want to dance because I am now the older girl that inspired me when I was a young dancer. As a child, the dancers I looked up to inspired me not only to be a successful dancer, but to be a good human. They taught me the importance of kindness, hard work, and being a leader, and I too want to express these characteristics and guide the younger generation to do the same. Not only will I demonstrate these traits through my daily actions, but I will make them evident in my dancing. Furthermore, my use of vulnerable, pure artistry is a live expression of these attributes.
I want to dance because, for a moment, all my troubles go away. This art form is one-of-a-kind, as it involves the full immersion of the minds, bodies, and souls of both the dancers and their audience members. Because I integrate my entire being into my dancing, I can let go and forget the everlasting distractors of day-to-day life, creating an invaluable feeling of peace for a moment of time.
One of the major beauties of dance is that it provides an opportunity for artists to learn and grow from one another. As I embark on my artistic journey, this factor will guide me to cultivate and immerse myself in an enriching, encouraging environment. Moreover, I look forward to discovering the ways this type of atmosphere will shape me to be the best humans and artists I can possibly be.
